What’s un-trendy for wedding dresses in 2025

Let's start with a mention of which wedding dress trends brides are saying goodbye to in 2025. One major un-trend in wedding dresses this year is belts. And when we talk about bridal belts, we mean those overly embellished, often chunky and/or wide belts to put over the waist of your wedding dress. There's so many options when it comes to bridal accessories, and a clunky belt to go with your bridal gown just ain't one of them anymore.

Another wedding dress trend that we're happy is going out of the style? Fast fashion. With new data and information coming out every year on the harmful effects that fast fashion has on our planet (and on our overall health, quite frankly), buying secondhand wedding dresses is one bridal trend that is not going out of style anytime soon. Just check out this TedTalk that discusses how sustainable fashion is actually the new luxury. In the video, this world-renowned designer discusses how there’s more good work being done to create a landscape of circular fashion, which essentially allows us to access better quality materials for our clothes.

Top wedding dress trends for 2025

As we ride into the new year, let's take a look at what's trending in the bridal fashion world. Here are our top 7 picks for the best wedding dress trends in 2025.

Basque waists

One of the biggest (and boldest, if you ask us) wedding dress trends out there today has to be basque waists.

The great thing about basque waistlines on wedding dresses is that they are form-fitting and flattering on brides. The basque waist dress trend came in big in 2024, and more brides than ever will be wearing gowns with this type of waistline for their weddings in 2025. You can now find this stylish, elongated waist on all types of wedding dress styles – whether it be a princess ball gown, on top of a satin skirt, a gown with a sweetheart neckline, a sexy strapless, off-the-shoulder, or even a wedding dress with long sheer sleeves.

Basque waists work to create a wonderfully lengthened look when you're wearing the gown. It stretches at the waist from either side, making for an eye-catching and dramatic silhouette. We can't wait to see the brides that will be rockin' them down the aisle this year.

Lace

It's a whole lotta lace for bridal gowns in 2025. One of the best things about this year's wedding dress trends is that they are getting back to basics and creating new looks from those primary elements. Things like dress color, fabric, shape, and all exquisite details are highlighted in the trends.

So when it comes to fabric, brides are bringing lace back in lots of different ways. Think a delicate lace overlay, a pleated skirt on your bridal mini, or an intricate veil that's giving Princess Bride.

While lace is one of the more timeless gown fabrics, it's being added to wedding dresses by designers who want to capture a modern yet intimate and idyllic look. Lace fabric on a wedding dress creates lots of texture and appeal, making for not-so-subtle romance (which is like, totally romantic).

Color play

Brides in 2025 are making a statement with pops of color in their wedding gowns, and we're here for all of it. These days it's all about playing with color, whether that be a romantic hue of pink for your bridal veil, a bold shade of champagne for your gown, or a black wedding dress to walk down the runway (sorry, aisle).

The black wedding dress was definitely on brand and super trendy for lots of our Hand-Me-Gowns brides in 2024. Our brides are already a little rebellious to begin with, so we weren't really surprised when we discovered that black wedding dresses got a ton of requests last year. And this inkling for more color in your wedding continues with a break from the white vs ivory wedding dress, where everything from pink to deep champagnes are being worn by brides. Hint hint, even blue wedding dresses are trending. You can Google "Something Blue" in bridal gowns and start searching for your perfect wedding dress!

So, if you're getting an itch to try something different and break away from the more traditional white wedding dress, know that we carry black gowns and gowns with non-traditional pops of color at our bridal boutique in all shapes and sizes. All of this color play is so fun that you'll likely be seeing more of it in the coming years.

Corsets

We don't know if it's all that Bridgerton we've been watching over the past five years, but corsets on a bridal gown have come back on the scene and are now one of the top wedding dress trends of this 2025 era.

You don't need to go full-on throwback Victoria era to rock this bridal trend, however. When shopping for your wedding dress, keep an eye out for anything with a cinched silhouette. Pair that with some exposed fabric like an elegant lace or tulle, and you've nailed this new twist on a long-established bridal look.

Pleats

Give us those pleats, pretty please. This is what more brides-to-be are saying when shopping for their dream wedding gown. When it comes to the elements of a wedding dress, the focus here is the fabric, as it gives main character energy to create texture for a romantic and bold bridal look.

Try pleats as sleeves, pleats as the skirt, pleats in the train or veil, even pleats for the whole dang dress. All of these pleated looks are a fun and fabulous bridal trend that's back big time after a decades-long slumber. On the bridal fashion runways in 2024, we spotted iconic designers like Pronovias adding tilted pleats to modest silhouette gowns, basically showing that there's so many different ways to jazz up a wedding dress.

Embellishments

Textures are big when it comes to wedding dress trends in 2025. Our 2024 wedding dress trend of 3D florals has evolved to a full-on trend of finding room to embellish at any and every step of the way, adding touches of glitter to give you a perfect bridal glam.

Whether it be in the form of pearl beads on your bridal veil, a big satin bow in the back of your gown, or a sparkling sequined overlay, designers are constantly adding new and innovative embellishments to their bridal collections every year.

If you're not the risk-taking or romantic bride and are leaning of the side of a more simple dress for your big day, nothing's stopping you from adding a little embellishment to your other wedding events. Rock them on your little white dress for other wedding-related celebrations like your wedding shower and rehearsal dinner.

The minimalist wedding dress

Clean, classic, simple, sheer – whatever you want to call it, lots of modern brides just love keeping to a "minimalist" kinda look on their big day. Capture your own individual take on minimalism by shedding a layered and embellished look for one of sheer elegance. With all the asks we get for "simple white gown" at our boutique on the weekly, we're pretty sure that wearing a minimalist bridal gown is one of those wedding fashion trends that will never really go out of style. Plus with more and more spaces across the country are going with minimalist and modern decor, so it's not really a surprise that weddings in 2025 are taking a minimalist edge.

What does a simple and minimalist wedding gown look like, you may be wondering? In an intentionally stark contrast to the embellished bridal style trend, a minimalist wedding dress is typically ivory colored and absent of any pops of color. There's also no big lace, intricate detailing, beads, or other embellishments on the fabric. Lots of minimalist bridal gowns are sleeveless, but not necessarily. Check out this Tadashi Shoji look says it all., look, that's a perfect example of a minimalist style gown.

Dreamy, right? Sometimes, less is more. Even when it comes to showing off your bridal style.
